Summer Music

Not all songs that Minus The Bear puts out are danceable and really feel good like the song “South Side Life” but the song is a perfect warm summer day type song.  The track is actually a B-Side off of OMNI an album that received both praise and disapproval from critics. Either way the song is just an amazing, the band found a Spanish singing woman named Ely Guerra to do a part of the song that just gives it that warm weather kind of feel. Summer is upon us so add this joyful song to your beach playlist.

Who let Durst back in the studio?

I think we’re all guilty of at least enjoying one song by Limp Bizkit at some point in our lives (at least the older generation that reads this blog) but this song is a tragedy. Im excited to hear the new album, if this is the first single, its gonna be a train wreck. Please make sure you listen to the video i posted below you’ll get a good laugh out of it. The chorus is ridiculous but his is my favorite verse by far…

My nose is running like me from the police
It’s been three weeks and I ain’t got no sleep
Now I’m chillin where the players and the hoes be,
with two broke hands trying to roll weed
……. pop pop p-pop off the rock ship

Nice work Freddy. For your audio pleasure… Shotgun by Limp Bizkit.

Horrible Crowes Release

It’s official the side project Horrible Crowes from Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem has a release date of September 6th on Side One Dummy Records.  The information given so far is that their are 12 tracks that will be on the album and it’s going to be much different from The Gaslight Anthem in that it’s more raw and has lot’s of instruments that aren’t present in Fallon’s original outfit.  He has stated the use of pianos, string arrangements and the sounds of garbage cans and breaking glass, so you can expect a pretty unique sound from the band.  I was honestly hoping for a release sometime during the summer but I guess later is better than never.

Artist Spotlight

“All my friends are living saints!” is the opening line Jimmy Stadt, lead singer of Polar Bear Club yells in their hit song “Living Saints.”  It couldn’t be more true for a band that has stuck together these past several years on a small punk label and growing into a prominent band in the punk music scene today.  Interesting enough the band is tough to categorize in just the punk genre as they dive into experimental guitar parts and various styles of singing between the traditional punk chords being played.  It suits my musical interest and I have grown very fond of this band in the past several months after accidentally stumbling onto their catalogue just on pure curiosity and I honestly believe they will be huge once their next release comes out by the end of summer.  The band’s sound can really only be categorized as punk but a lot of their sound incorporates post-hardcore, hardcore and pop from track to track.  This may be the reason why the band has toured with outfits such as Bouncing Souls and The Gaslight Anthem to prog-punk bands such as Moving Mountains a feat not many bands can do. After reading this it will be easy to see how their sound seems influenced by bands such as Hot Water Music, Third Eye Blind and Bouncing Souls.   And although they have only been a band for about 6 years now they have already released and EP and two full-lengths with a new one coming out sometime by late summer, but until then I suggest checking out their discography to give their new album a fair shot.

The band released an EP called The Redder, the Better on Triple Attack Records in 2006 and by most online sites received many positive reviews for the band’s unique punk sound.  The track “His Devotee” is probably the best example of where the band would head creatively on the next album with Stadt using a mix of his harsh and pop singing style and guitarists Chris Browne and Nate Morris incorporating more post-hardcore playing.  It was only shortly after that the band would release their first full-length on Bridge Nine Records entitled Sometimes Things Just Disappear an album that would push the band into a more known light in the punk scene.   Key tracks on this album include album opener “Eat Dinner, Bury The Dog and Run”, “Burned Out In A Jar”, “Our Ballads” and “Convinced I’m Wrong.”  The breakdown at the end of “Our Ballads” is so punk rock with the chorus and band repeating “Our songs should separate all the girls from the boys!” and is definitely a song I suggest checking out from this album.

With some success now riding on the band’s shoulders they immediately released their second full-length entitled Chasing Hamburg, an album that wasn’t too far from their signature sound and has their most popular song  ”Living Saints” on the track list.  The album received rave reviews by critics and put the band on a higher status as they started headlining at this point and also playing with local legends The Bouncing Souls for their homecoming show.  Some key tracks to check out on this album include “See The Wind”, “Living Saints”, “Take Me To The Town”, and “Light Of Local Eyes.”  If you want to know which song to give a chance first out of their entire catalog I would say listen to “Living Saints”, it is a mix of punk, hardcore and pop that will have you singing along to every time you listen to it.  Though it is going to be hard to follow up their past two successful albums, I am sure Polar Bear Club will release another solid release by the end of this summer that is apparently titled Clash Battle Guilt Pride and will no doubt be another punk masterpiece.  Check out their video for “Living Saints” below.

The name of the track is entitled “Exhaustion and Disgust” and the album will be in stores tomorrow for all you punk fans out there.

The Gaslight Anthem Video Premiere

New Jersey Blues-Punk rockers The Gaslight Anthem have recently released their new video for their hit song “Bring It On” off of last year’s album American Slang. The song is one of their more popular tracks from that album and is usually played at many of their live shows while on tour.  Brian Fallon is an incredible lyricist in  many of his songs and this one is no exception because the song tells the story of a man stricken by a tough divorce from a loved one who is unfortunately still in love.  The song goes on to tell about how the guy just doesn’t understand why she left him for someone else and why he just plain wasn’t good enough for her.  The video matches the lyrics of what the song is telling and they even used their close friends to play the parts of the man and woman which I thought was pretty cool.  I actually was looking up information on where the video was shot because it looks like it could be Red Bank or Asbury Park just by looking at the houses in the neighborhoods.  If anyone finds out let me know @brentshibla because I am curious to find out .  Check out the video link for “Bring It On” below.

Songs That Rip

It’s back and heavier than ever with this post on “Songs That Rip.”  It’s been awhile but thanks to my associate in the Hardcore research department @jeffymatt_son, I have found my newest song to be blasting on my workout mix repeatedly.  The song I have decided to put on this post today is the newest single from the band August Burns Red entitled “Empire.”  The song indeed rips and will have you singing along with the “Woah-Oh’s” during the mid-song break down.  The song is featured on their newest album Leveler which is going to be released on June 21st via Solid State Records.  Check out the song below.

Edit The Modest Mouse

This is a very rare old song from Modest Mouse that the band released as a b-side to their first full length This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About called “Edit The Sad Parts.” They originally put it on the Interstate 8 EP but that was a limited release that doesn’t get printed anymore and for some reason decided to not put it on the b-side full length Building Nothing Out Of Something. Somehow this song got lost in the Modest Mouse library but in my opinion it is probably one of the best songs they have written and is typical old Modest Mouse, with the long crazy guitar parts, walking bass lines and very sad lyrics from Isaac Brock.  I don’t know if the band has played this song in the past years live but if I ever did hear it played in concert I would probably get teary eyed.  Check out the song below and enjoy.
