It’s not everyday that you see a Hasidic Jew in the music industry, let alone one who does a mix of reggae and rap. Matisyahu has always interested me since his form of Judaism is the most strict and one of the more stricter forms of religion in general and yet he puts out albums and goes on tour. Although he isn’t like most rap since it’s more of a reggae vibe and his lyrics instead of talking about champagne and Glock’s, he decides to talk about uplifting stories and messages of hope to his listeners. I don’t know too much about him besides that but it’s cool that Daytrotter has some variation in the artists they decide to come in and record. Most of the songs that are being performed are songs off his recent album Light and are described in the article below the patented watercolor painting of the artist. The link for the session is below and be sure to check out this page daily for other artists performing stripped down versions of their songs.
