Hailing from West Palm Beach, FL the indie pop rock band is anything but surfer dudes from South Florida but they do enjoy a tinge of surf rock added to their 90′s style alt rock sound. The album Astro Coast is their debut and they’ve really come out of nowhere considering they are on a pretty small independent label and only really received small radio play on Sirius XM U radio station from time to time. I’m pretty sure they won’t be a small name band for long because their sound is fun and original sounding by blending bands such as The Pixies and Weezer from the 90′s, with an experimental sound of their own. The band claims they don’t surf but being from Florida the name seems to fit, considering it has high shark attack rates and plenty of surfer blood in the water. Most of the claims about this band are of 90′s Indie Rock especially early Weezer but I hear a lot more Pixies and Sonic Youth in their fuzzy guitar distortion and heavy crunching on the bass . As far as the album as a whole goes it’s about 90% perfect and most tracks are instant hits besides maybe a few rough spots in the Jabroni tracks.
The album has some great starting tracks to get into the album such as “Floating Vibes” which has a solid opening guitar intro which transcends nicely into the album single “Swim” where it closely resembles the raw indie sound of the 90′s and you can’t help but sing the chorus that’s shouting “Swim to reach the end”. The tracks “Take It Easy” and “Harmonix” are the more experimental tracks on the album that closely resemble Sonic Youth and The Pixies in the peak of their careers but change it up with the beach rock instrumental in “Neighbour Riffs.” The album front to back is awesome as it is cool and hopefully I can claim this band as an I found them first kind of thing because I don’t really know anybody who has listened to them yet besides the hardcore Indie rock stations. I would highly suggest checking out the single below first before listening to any songs because it rips.
