Some research was done on the effect of illegal downloading and how much it was actually hurting the music industry as a whole. What was found is that people who download music illegally are also the most likely to spend the most money on music as well. The study was done in Great Britain and used previous research to back up their findings and found downloaders will go to the most concerts, buy the most merch, albums, bootlegs and steal the most music.
Great Britain is actually taking a huge stand against illegal downloading by barring internet access for life if a person is convicted of three copyright infringement laws. Which sounds pretty socialist to me and this could only hurt the music industry in England because as research shows they are the most valuable to the industry. It goes to show any publicity is good publicity for a band even if half of your listeners didn’t purchase the album and I’ve always felt the only way for a band to even make money is by touring anyway. (All research was based off an article on this website http://www.boingboing.net/2009/11/01/heavy-illegal-downlo.html).
One thing that’s been bothering me is this new band/artist called Owl City who has a smash single called “Fireflies” and he really doesn’t deserve all the publicity he’s getting. Have people really never heard of The Postal Service that they are buying the shit out of this new single and acting like his sound is so original. The guy even sounds like Ben Gibbard from The Postal Service and the beats and samples are that same chill and ambient sound! I’m putting a good Postal Service song on here out of spite to Owl City and hope their song dies out quickly.

owl city blows dick, smoke blows out my ears when i hear his crappy music. i could make this song on my mac
