Not Quite That Boring

I don’t know if anybody but me is watching this new show on HBO called Bored To Death but I’ve gotten really into it so far since it’s series premiere.  The show stars Jason Schwartzman who plays a book writer who is struggling to write his second novel.  In the midst of it his girlfriend dumps him because she thinks he smokes too much marijuana and drinks too much (even though he’s cut down to strictly white wine).  After all this happens he finds himself with writer’s block, heartbroken and bored to death so he decides to start reading a series of detective novels and  gets the idea to put himself on craigslist as an unlicensed private detective.  This is the main plot to the story and each episode is different hilarious things happening to his character all while he is trying to appease his boss who is played by Ted Danson (Come on you know him) and helping his comic book drawing friend Zach Galifianakis (Out Cold, The Hangover).  The humor is brilliant and the shows are legit 30 minutes long and not cutting it short like cheap ass Entourage started doing.

What I found most interesting about Jason Schwartzman besides his hilarious roles in Wes Anderson films and his role in Funny People was that he used to be the drummer for the band Phantom Planet before pursuing acting further.  He also has his own solo project that he now does in his free time called Coconut Records which is sort of a pop/indie rock project where he plays various instruments.  His songs are featured in some movies he’s starred in as well as the theme song for Bored To Death so I suggest
checking it out Sundays at 9:30 PM as well as his music.
