Guinness Oyster Festival

This coming Sunday will be the return of the Guinness Oyster Festival in the beautiful Asbury Park.  I was fortunate enough to attend this last year and was blown away by the amount of bands, food, beer and people that were in attendance.  Think of a city street being closed down and all you have around you is Guinness trucks pouring beer and people offering outstanding food from the side walks at a cheap price, all while jamming out to some good local bands from the area.

The festival takes place on Cookman Avenue, which is the hot spot street in Asbury these days, and then runs all the way to the beach front by the Casino so people can enjoy the activities up there as well.  The food that is being served is everything from Irish, Spanish, Italian, Mexican, American and French from all the fine local restaurants but each place has their own way of serving oysters.  So if your really into seafood in general you are definitely going to want to head to Asbury Park this week and slurp down some oysters soaked in wine, Guinness, cocktail sauce and you name it.

Along with the delicious food and beer that you’ll be having you’ll get to hear some original acts that play music from punk, folk, rock n’ roll, reggae and Irish jam.  There was a great Irish folk band that played last year towards the end of the day and I hope to see them again this year while I’m bloated and buzzed.  Even if you get tired of walking around and want to take a break you can always stop into one of the multiple bars on the strip and watch the games.  It’s really a great day that is had by all and if you have some spare time to head over there for a few hours I know you’ll be talking about it to your friends.  I put the link to the website below for anybody who wants some information regarding the festival.
