It’s funny how 50 years ago there was really only a few genre’s of music and now these days every band creates their own genre just so they can feel like they created their own movement of music. Most of them are really ridiculous like bands that start creating names for their style of music like Grindcore and Deathcore, I don’t know but they both sound like hardcore to me. Some are pretty legit however, like the term “Emo” is actually politically incorrect and the real name for the genre is Post-Hardcore because it is the genre of music that preceeded the Hardcore movement in the 80′s. The difference mainly is that Hardcore bands that had broken up and formed new bands stopped singing about politics and fighting and started to write more sensitive and heartfelt lyrics. The term emo obviously comes from the emotional style of writing that tends to show trends of being sad and you can’t really blame them when in their previous bands they travelled around the country making 20 bucks a show and living in vans, that’s pretty sad. But really when it all comes down to it and when you really retrace the steps, it pretty much points back to Rock n’ Roll. If you were a band though what would you classify yourself as? I think I would be Experimental Indie Punk.
