Usually we’re not in the business of repping other apparel companies but these guys are a breath of fresh air out in the business world and we can all learn a little something from them. Krochet Kids International began when 3 childhood friends, hailing from Spokane, WA, set off on a mission to spread good through the art of crochet.
Kohl, Travis and Stewart first learned the craft through Kohls older brother, Parc “The Godfather”. Turns out these guys had a real knack for crocheting and the hats they had been making were a big in hit in their high school. Dubbed the Krochet Kids, they ended up paying for their Senior prom through sales of their new found skill. Since in the beginning it was never planned to turn into a business the guys slowly floated away from crocheting. Each went to a different college and found other things taking up their time, i.e surfing, skating, possibly class….
While on summer breaks the guys would volunteer abroad. This is were they realized the poverty problem that existed outside the US and, decided to do something about it. After Stewart took a trip to Uganda to research ways they could help, they made a decision, along with other friends, too spread the art of crochet in order to help others. Through much brainstorming, planning, researching, and pulling resources they formed a non-profit group… Krochet Kids International was born.
When all was said and done the group traveled to Uganda in the summer of 2007 in order to put their vision in gear. There they met with different organizations and taught a group of women how to crochet. The women make hats to be sent back to the US and sold in order to create a source of income for them and their families.
As of now the operation is small, located only in Northern Uganda, the guys have big plans for the future and we wish them the best of luck! Most of us hear about these problems and sympathize for these people but never do anything about it….. Here’s your chance, winter’s around the corner, order a hat…… Krochet Kids International
