I’m Not There

So I just checked out this pretty cool movie on Cinemax last night called I’m Not There, a movie based on the life and songs of Bob Dylan but in a different perspective.  Six different actors portray Bob Dylan in various times in his life as different character names from his songs or experiences that he had as a rising star in the music scene decade after decade.  The six actors who play Bob Dylan are Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Marcus Carl Franklin, Richard Gere, Heath Ledger and Ben Whishaw.  The concept was a little confusing because each character isn’t named Bob Dylan but they appear and act like the famous Folk Singer.  The movie is showing Bob Dylan as the different characters he writes about in his songs as well as the different experiences he had personally going through change in style and being received by media throughout his career.  It’s a very deep and trippy film the way it is filmed and may not be for everybody but if you appreciate Bob Dylan’s music and like Indie style filming, I highly suggest you check this movie out.  I was amazed by how much Cate Blanchett looked  like a really young Dylan and how close some of the other actors sounded and acted like him.  The movie is currently being played frequently on Cinemax and even if you can’t catch I would suggest Netflix or just buying it because it’s definitely an important movie to watch considering he is one of the greatest song writer’s in music history.

By the way I’ve been listening to.

Manchester Orchestra- Everything To Nothing

Dredg- The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion

Bob Dylan-  The Essential Bob Dylan
